Direct Energy is a North American retailer of natural gas and electricity services throughout much of Canada and the United States. Founded in Toronto in 1986, the company is currently headquartered in Houston, Texas.
The company offers a variety of natural gas options designed for industrial, commercial, and residential customers throughout British Columbia.
Industrial & Large Commercial Natural Gas Plans
Direct Energy has developed an extensive suite of natural gas solutions designed specifically for the needs of extremely large-scale consumers in British Columbia, including:
Fixed Price: Designed to give commercial operations greater control over their monthly and yearly natural gas costs, Direct Energy’s fixed price plan provides customers with a fixed rate per dekatherm (1 million British thermal units, or 1.055 GJ) for durations of up to 3 years. Direct Energy also assists clients with the strategic purchase of natural gas to take advantage of predictable pricing cycles.
Price Protection: Businesses can protect against market volatility while taking advantage of reduced prices with Direct Energy’s Price Protection plan. Customers specify a ceiling price—as defined by the NYMEX Index—which is never exceeded, essentially providing a fixed rate. More importantly, customers can specify a desired target price. If the market price drops to the desired level, the Price Protection plan converts to a fixed rate plan that locks in that new, lower price for the remainder of the term.
GasPortfolio: For customers with extremely high consumption levels, Direct Energy’s GasPortfolio plan provides a managed natural gas procurement solution utilizing real-time market data. This plan is recommended for multi-site commercial operations with an annual consumption of 50,000 dekatherms or higher.
Index Price: The index price plan allows consumers to purchase natural gas at the current floating commodity price, until the opportunity arises to lock in a fixed rate when prices are ideal.
NYMEX Plus: The NYMEX Plus is a blended option which gives customers the power to lock in the transportation cost element of their natural gas consumption for fixed periods of time, for specific volumes. Meanwhile, customers pay the commodity portion of their natural gas costs at the rate set by the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX).
Residential & Small Business Natural Gas Plans
Direct Energy provides homeowners and small businesses with the ability to lock in their natural gas prices for the long-term. Direct Energy’s plans for residents of British Columbia currently include:
3-Year Pacific Simple Plan: A fixed-rate plan with a term length of 36 months.
5-Year Pacific Simple Plan: Designed for those who prioritize stable budgeting over all else, this plan offers a locked-in fixed rate for a period of 60 months.
