UPDATE: The energy savings programs were scrapped by the provincial government. Applications submitted before that may still be considered, but the rebate and incentive programs are no longer accepting new applications. The previous information is still available on this page in case you need to check historical data and the program’s stats.
In 2015, commercial and industrial companies consumed more than 78.4% of the electricity distributed within Alberta. This makes it clear that any effort to significantly lower the province’s usage of electricity must give due consideration to the needs of businesses and organizations.
The Government of Alberta’s new agency, Energy Efficiency Alberta, has been given the task of helping Albertans reduce their energy consumption. While many of their programs are targeted at residential consumers, the agency is also offering a Business, Non-Profit, and Institutional Energy Savings Program that is designed specifically for businesses and non-profits. Under the program, when an organization installs approved lighting or heating equipment, the organization can then apply for a cash rebate that will cover part of the purchase and installation cost.
This program is designed to encourage organizations to replace their old, inefficient fixtures with new energy saving products.
