In order to complete a transfer of service, or an initial start of service, customers may be required to provide a guarantee of credit. For those who wish to maintain accurate charges for energy, submission of an initial or final meter reading is recommended.
Changing Natural Gas Retailers and Renewing Natural Gas Agreements
In the province of Manitoba, residents and businesses are free to purchase their primary natural gas from a retailer of their choosing. If you choose to sign a contract with a retailer, Manitoba Hydro will continue to handle natural gas service and billing, but your bill will indicate that your primary natural gas is being sourced from your retailer of choice, and you will be charged the negotiated rate.
If you sign a contract with a retailer, Manitoba Hydro will be notified of the change, and your billing will be updated upon the starting date of the contract.
If you wish to exit your contract with your natural gas retailer prematurely in order to change to another retailer, or to go back to Manitoba Hydro, you will likely have to pay an early exit fee to your retailer. When your contract reaches its expiration date, it will likely either renew for a 1-year term, or automatically shift you back to being a Manitoba Hydro customer. Review your contract carefully, and contact your retailer before the expiration date to let them know whether you would like to negotiate a new contract, or cancel the contract upon expiration.
