UPDATE: The energy savings programs were scrapped by the provincial government. Applications submitted before that may still be considered, but the rebate and incentive programs are no longer accepting new applications. The previous information is still available on this page in case you need to check historical data and the program’s stats.
Please check this page again soon for a new guide on the best solar rebate programs in Alberta, including:
- Alberta Municipal Solar Program by the Albertan Urban Municipalities Association
- Solar Rebate Program by the City of Edmonton.
While solar power technology has been around for several decades now, it is only in the last few years that costs have come down enough to make solar power a realistic proposition for most businesses and homeowners.
Energy Efficiency Alberta is a new Government of Alberta agency designed to help Alberta residents and business owners reduce their consumption of energy and other resources. One of the agency’s new programs is the Residential and Commercial Solar Program, which is designed to encourage the purchase and installation of solar power systems. Under this program, homeowners, businesses, and non-profit organizations that install solar power systems are eligible for government rebates.
Benefits of the Program
While the program is still in the development phase, it is expected that by 2019, the program will have:
- Reduced residential solar system installation costs by 30%.
- Reduced business and non-profit solar installation costs by 25%.
- Helped to create nearly 1,000 jobs in Alberta.
- Reduced emissions of greenhouse gases by 500,000 metric tonnes.
Program Eligibility
While this program is still in the planning phases, details regarding program eligibility, qualifying systems, and rebate amounts will become available later in 2017.
