What is Bow Valley Power?
Bow Valley Power is an energy marketer founded in 2010 in Alberta. The company currently supplies electricity and natural gas to more than 180 communities in the province. Customers include both residential and commercial energy consumers. As posted on its website, Bow Valley Power was Alberta’s first energy marketer to provide both traditional and EcoLogo certified green power to consumers. They are headquartered in Calgary.
Bow Valley Power Electricity Plans & Natural Gas Rates
Bow Valley Power offers both fixed and variable rate (floating rate) for electricity and natural gas.
There are three categories under fixed-term contract rates for electricity: base, discount rate, and senior’s rate. The discounted rate includes a prudential premium of 5% per annum that is to be paid monthly as a credit. When the account is closed, 100% of the prudential amount is refunded. The floating rate for electricity is posted each month.
For electricity, there is an administration fee of $6.50 per metered site (fixed monthly rate). Larger users (over 1,833 kWh per month) are charged an additional $0.003/kWh.
For natural gas, they offer only one fixed rate. But for variable rates, customers have a choice of choosing between a variable rate and a discounted variable rate. The discounted rate includes a prudential premium of 5% per annum, which is to be paid monthly as a credit.
A fixed administration fee of $4.50 per metered site (fixed monthly rate) is charged for natural gas.
Bow Valley Power Green Energy Plans
Bow Valley Power partners with Green Alberta Energy to offer EcoLogo certified green power to residential consumers and businesses across Alberta. This means electricity customers have the option of adding green power to their electricity plans, whether fixed or floating.
As of early 2021, the additional cost is 1.66 cents/kWh, and the percentage you want to green is optional.
