What is Acorn Energy?
Acorn Energy is a family-owned and operated business. As an affiliate of the UTILITYNet, they market electricity, natural gas, and internet to homes, farms, and businesses in Alberta. Acorn Energy has been located in Calgary since 2012.
Acorn Energy Plans and Services
Acorn Energy provides both variable/floating and fixed rates for electricity and natural gas, along with providing internet and the microgen solar club. All plans are available to be changed and there is an included fee with every plan.
Acorn Energy Fixed Electricity Rate Plans
Guaranteed fixed rates for electricity plans are available in 1 year or 3 year terms and the prices are guaranteed for that period. Administrative charges are per metered site on a monthly fixed rate basis and customers who consume over 2950 kWh will be charged an additional fee.
Acorn Energy Fixed Natural Gas Rates
Guaranteed in 1-year increments, Acorn Energy has two guaranteed rates:
- Discount gas rate (+ Prudential)
- Base Gas Rate
All plans include administration fees.
Acorn Energy Floating Electricity Rate
The variable market price (+ Prudential) plus a transaction fee. It changes per month based on what the wholesale market price is.
Acorn Energy Floating Natural Gas Rate
The floating/variable natural gas rate changes with the wholesale market and customers will be charged each month differently based on that, plus a transaction fee.

Acorn Energy Internet
Acorn Energy partners with Q-Wave for their internet provider services. There are several plans available depending on the customer’s need, including:
