The Government of Alberta announced an energy rebate program on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The Alberta Energy Rebate begins July 1, 2026, and will be available for more than 3.4 million families. Eligible Albertans will receive $100 as a way to help with the higher gas prices seen in the province in the last few months.
Although the title mentions energy, the program is focused on providing support with higher fuel costs, not directly linked to electricity or natural gas bills.
Albertans will be able to use the amount for any purposes, not only energy costs. The Alberta Energy Rebate is not taxable and does not need to be reported to the Canada Revenue Agency.
Eligibility
Alberta residents who are 18 or older, have filed a 2025 tax return and have a household income of $225,000 or less, will be eligible to apply for the Energy Rebate through an online portal starting on July 1, 2026.
Eligible two-adult households will receive $200 in immediate relief that can be used for any household need. Families may also benefit from additional $100 rebates with each eligible adult family member or child aged 18 or older living in the same home.
Each adult will need to apply separately to receive a payment.
For the purposes of the Alberta Energy Rebate eligibility, ‘household’ is defined as a single individual or two individuals who are married or in a common-law relationship.
Albertans 18 and over living at the same address, but who are not married or common law, would be considered separate households. This includes:
- roommates
- children over the age of 18
- other adult family members living in the same home
