Spot Power Electricity Plans & Natural Gas Rate

Spot Power is an energy provider located in Calgary, Alberta, that started in 2008. The company is a part of Utilitynet, a network of energy companies that provide energy management services. Spot Power has become one of the main competitive retailers in Alberta and provides consumers with both electricity and natural gas rates. The energy provider services most regions in the province, including Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Red Deer and Fort McMurray.

Spot Power energy rates and plans

Spot Power offers electricity and natural gas plans for both residential and small business energy consumers. The energy prices vary based on the plan: The company offers both guaranteed electricity (fixed rates) and natural gas, as well as variable rates for both homes and businesses. There’s also the option to bundle gas and electricity and receive a single bill for both services.

As to the cancellation of services, Spot Power requires 10 days of notice. Consumers who are looking to switch to Spot Power can expect the company to handle the switch from their current retailer.

To see current Spot Power rates in Alberta, you can go to EnergyRates.ca or fill in your postal code in the form above.

Spot Power green energy plans

In addition to traditional sources of energy, Spot Power enables consumers to select the percentage of their monthly energy that they would like to be green or renewable. Green energy rates are usually added to the consumer’s current electricity rate.

Spot Power’s Solar Power Club

The Spot Power Solar Club is a loyalty program for microgenerators of solar power in Alberta. Micro-generation refers to the production of electricity on a micro-scale. Some of the benefits include 2% cashback on all energy imported from the grid annually, as well as exclusive electricity rates.

Solar power microgenerators with Spot Power have the choice of selecting between two electricity rates: The high export rate is for people micro-generating more electricity to the grid than they are importing. Conversely, the low export rate is for people importing more electricity from the grid than they are exporting.

Spot Power referral programs

Spot Power has a number of referral programs available — for example, charities can refer their members to switch their energy provider to Spot Power. With each successful referral, a portion of the profits from the energy consumption of the referred people will be given to the charity that referred them. Businesses and individuals can also refer people and receive an extra stream of income.

Spot Power’s discounts and promotions

One example of a Spot Power promotion is that they offer senior discounts on energy pricing. Seniors aged 60 and over can purchase electricity at a lower price. For more information on senior energy rates and other promotions, you can contact Spot Power’s customer care via phone or email.

Spot Power service area

Spot Power can service with natural gas and electricity almost all communities in Alberta including Edmonton, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Fort McMurray and Calgary. Exclusions include Medicine Hat and some Rural Electrification Associations (REAs).

What is the Spot Power prudential?

Regardless of the plan that consumers choose, Spot Power requires consumers to pay a prudential charge. Prudential charges are paid by all energy retailers in Alberta to energy generators and distributors.

These charges ensure that the generators are paid for the energy that consumers use and that distributors are paid for delivering energy to consumers. A 5% interest per annum on the prudential charge is credited to all monthly Spot Power bills. The Spot Power prudential is fully refundable if consumers decide to leave the energy provider.

Spot Power payment: How do I pay my Spot Power bill?

Pre-authorized debit from a chequing account is currently the only Spot power payment method. However, consumers may make prepayments to their accounts via the Paytm Canada app.

You can locate Spot Power at the following address:

Four things you didn’t know about Spot Power

There are a lot of different ways you can get cheap rates when it comes to your energy bill, but the number one thing you need to know is what type of plan is going to work for you. There is no one plan that offers the absolute best deal. Many depend on consumption rates, types of consumption, peak hours, etc. There are a lot of variables to consider, and the biggest variable is you; however, once you know the options you have and the options that will work best for you, then it starts to get a bit easier when it comes to narrowing down the different providers available in your area.

One energy provider that is gaining a lot of momentum is Spot Power; however, while Spot Power is generating a lot of popularity with its breakdown of rates, it definitely isn’t the only provider in Alberta that is generating good reviews. Here are four things you probably didn’t know about Spot Power (and that are often mentioned in online reviews) that might help you find the energy supplier that will work best for you.

The lowest rates

A lot of energy providers out there are going to advertise themselves as having the lowest rates; however, their rates are only the lowest when they come in plans that compliment your specific energy needs. For instance, Spot Power and Enmax both offer variable rates and stable fixed rates, but this isn’t the only thing you need to watch out for.

You also want to look into how the energy provider you are looking at calculates their variable rates. Spot Power, for instance, uses the Actual Market Price instead of the government’s Rate of Last Resort (ROLR), which means it could be charging you significantly less than other companies that follow the RRO would — but you may have to do a little research into the current market fluctuations in order to ensure that you aren’t making yourself too vulnerable to market spikes by opting for market prices.

Price breaks

An alternative to variable rates is the fixed-rate option. Spot Power and Enmax both offer fixed-rate options, along with a number of others, and a few companies, like Spot Power, will even offer additional discounts on their rates (ie: the seniors’ discount). However, if you are on the fence between committing yourself to fixed-rate prices or making yourself vulnerable to market fluctuations, then perhaps a combined rate option is best for you. ATCO Energy can provide you with a structured blocks plan that will allow you to combine price protection with flexibility.

In addition, some providers offer other details that can save you time, money or both, such as automated billing, no cancellation fees and the like. There are going to be ways to limit your rates no matter where you look, but the trick is to find a company that has the best opportunities to suit and compliment your specific needs.

Green energy solutions

We’re beyond the denial stage when it comes to thinking about global warming, and Alberta also got a bit of a wakeup call on the importance of economic diversification. As a result, choosing an energy provider that offers green energy alternatives may be important to you. A lot of energy providers are getting into offering innovative and sustainable green energy solutions, such as Just Energy’s JustGreen Power and Natural Gas, Enmax’s solar energy solutions, and Spot Power’s Green Energy plan that allows you to choose the percentage of green energy you want to use.

Community interaction

Looking for that hint of community involvement can mean all the difference between buying from an anonymous entity and a company that has a personal connection within your community? Just Energy and Spot Power are both currently providing financial assistance to the Canadian Red Cross’ Alberta Fires Emergency Appeal to help provide assistance with disaster recovery needs. Sometimes finding a company that has a bit of humanity is a very reassuring factor when it comes down to making your final choice.

Spot Power also helps to fund many other social and volunteer programs, such as the altView Foundation, KidSport Calgary and Area, The Skipping Stone Foundation and more.

There are a lot of variables to consider when it comes to choosing the energy provider that suits you best, but you don’t have to do it on your own.

Visit us here at EnergyRates.ca today to learn more about the different energy providers in your area and what they can offer you.
