In recent years, British Columbia has relaxed the regulations governing the province’s natural gas markets. While residents of B.C. cannot yet purchase their electricity from retail alternatives to BC Hydro and FortisBC, it is possible to sign up for competitively priced natural gas plans.
But many British Columbia homeowners and business don’t know they have retail natural gas options to choose from.
For several years now, we have been providing our fellow Canadians with information on the country’s various energy markets. A common trend in British Columbia and elsewhere is that most consumers are simply unaware that there are retail alternatives to regulated energy providers. You have a choice.
If you choose to sign up for a retail natural gas plan, FortisBC will continue to transmit your gas and bill you for your usage, but you will be charged for your usage according to the terms of the agreement with your retail provider.
If you would like to see what retail options are available in your area, fill out the energy rate comparison form above. When you enter your postal code and indicate whether you’re a homeowner or business owner, you’ll be presented with a list of the natural gas providers in your area, and the plans and rates they currently offer.
If you would like more in-depth information about these retailers, as well as British Columbia’s regulated energy providers, we invite you to check out the articles below.
