If this is the case, or\u00a0you\u00a0are\u00a0looking to get natural gas service to a newly constructed home or business, here are the steps to follow to\u00a0initiate\u00a0natural gas service.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-1-contact-your-local-natural-gas-utility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Contact Your Local Natural Gas Utility\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two main natural gas utilities in Ontario:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/energyrates.ca\/fr\/ontario-regulated-price-plan-providers\/enbridge-gas-distribution\/\">Enbridge Gas<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epcor.com\/ca\/en\/business\/infrastructure-development\/natural-gas-distribution.html\">Natural Resource Gas<\/a><\/strong>, with the vast majority of people receiving\u00a0service from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enbridge.com\/\"><strong>Enbridge<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0The Ontario Energy Board\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ontarioenergyboard.ca\/OEB\/Consumers\/Natural+Gas\/Your+Natural+Gas+Utility\/Find+Your+Natural+Gas+Utility\">natural gas utilities page<\/a> can help you\u00a0identify\u00a0your local utility.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you have found your utility, give them a call and ask whether they provide service at your address. If not, service may not be available or may require additional arrangements or expansion. Otherwise, you will be able to proceed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-2-have-a-licensed-contractor-install-gas-appliances\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Have a Licensed Contractor Install Gas Appliances\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If\u00a0you\u00a0are\u00a0having\u00a0a gas\u00a0service set up, you\u00a0likely want\u00a0to have gas appliances installed in your home. It\u00a0is extremely important that you employ a contractor licensed to work on gas and HVAC systems. All qualified contractors in Ontario\u00a0are required to\u00a0be certified through the\u00a0<strong>Technical Standards<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Safety Authority<\/strong>\u00a0(TSSA), typically holding a valid gas technician certification (e.g., G2 or G1).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-3-apply-for-natural-gas-service\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Apply for Natural Gas Service\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You or your contractor will have to\u00a0submit\u00a0a request for natural gas service to the local utility. In many cases, your contractor will provide the necessary technical details and measurements\u00a0required\u00a0for the application.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-4-open-an-account-with-your-gas-utility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Open an Account with Your Gas Utility\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now it\u2019s time to contact your utility to open an account. A representative from the utility may assess your property to determine the requirements and complexity of installing a gas line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In many cases, the utility will install a gas line at little or no upfront cost, depending on factors such as distance from the main line and site conditions. However, additional charges may apply for longer distances or more complex installations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-5-gas-connection-installation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Gas Connection Installation\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gas utilities often have a backlog of work, so it may take several weeks or longer after approval of your service application for workers to come out and install your gas line and gas meter.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-6-appliance-installation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Appliance Installation\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this point, your contractor will come out and install your gas\u00a0appliances, once\u00a0the necessary lines and connections have been installed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-7-gas-equipment-inspection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Gas Equipment Inspection\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that everything is in place, your contractor will inspect the natural gas equipment and appliances to ensure they meet safety requirements. In some cases, inspections may also involve the Technical Standards and Safety Authority.
