In cases where consumers have exhausted all other options, the <a href=\"\/?page_id=149\">Utilities Consumer Advocate<\/a> (UCA) offers mediation services to help resolve these differences.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the many services offered by the UCA Mediation Team include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Resolving issues with your retail provider or utility company.<\/li>\n<li>Explaining the differences between <a href=\"\/?page_id=71\">retail providers<\/a> and <a href=\"\/?page_id=85\">regulated utilities<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Providing advice about what the right choice for electricity and natural gas services, depending on the consumer\u2019s specific needs.<\/li>\n<li>Answering common questions such as whether it\u2019s advisable to sign a retail contract, what the current rate is for electricity and natural gas, and what options are available in a customer\u2019s local area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s important for consumers to understand that this is a useful resource that many Albertans have relied on. In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucahelps.alberta.ca\/documents\/Mediation_Summary_Report_October_2016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 2016<\/a> alone, more than 1,150 Albertans contacted the Mediation Team for information and advice about a range of issues, including customer service, contracts, billing, <a href=\"\/?page_id=1077\">disconnection<\/a>, and other concerns. In that same month, 100 people took advantage of UCA\u2019s mediation services.
