Customers in these places can choose between not only ENMAX Energy rates, but also the ENMAX regulated option (ROLR).

ENMAX Regulated Rate Option (Rate of Last Resort)

As of early 2025, ENMAX had regulated electricity plans in Calgary, Red Deer, Cardston and Ponoka. In Edmonton, EPCOR is the default regulated option for electricity. Also, there isn’t an ENMAX natural gas regulated rate option. If you intend to purchase gas from ENMAX, you need to pick between the ENMAX Energy fixed or floating plans.

For regulated rates (ROLR), consumers can check both current and historical prices. Alongside Alberta energy rates, the ENMAX page for regulated energy provides information regarding distribution and transmission charges, current and historical rates and billing information.

ENMAX used to be the default regulated-rate option for electricity in Fort Macleod, but since October 2018, the town’s regulated energy provider is EPCOR.

ENMAX WSP (Wire Service Provider)

ENMAX Power Corporation

ENMAX Power Corporation (EPC) is a distributor in Alberta. ENMAX Power provides a number of operational services in the Calgary region, including the maintenance of Calgary’s electrical grid, as well as distributing and transmitting electricity for both regulated and competitive retailers.

ENMAX Power currently maintains more than 300 kilometers of transmission wires and 7,600 km of distribution lines in the Calgary area, and has been constantly expanding this network in the past few years due to the City of Calgary’s rapid growth. ENMAX Power is the wires service provider for the entirety of the city, and is contracted to provide wire service to a number of owners, including Red Deer, Ponoka, and Cardston. In cities outside of Calgary, the local municipal governments set the Rate of Last Resort (ROLR) for their respective areas.

ENMAX Power Corp provides meter-reading services in Calgary

ENMAX Power provides electric and water meter-reading services for more than 460,000 residents and businesses in the City of Calgary.

While many residents of Calgary do not have contracts with ENMAX Energy, ENMAX Power owns and operates all metering equipment in the city, and so EPC provides meter-reading services for many customers of third-party retailers in the area. If you are ever in doubt about the identity of someone claiming to be an ENMAX Power employee, note that all employees wear clothing embroidered with the ENMAX logo and carry identification, which customers may ask to see at any time.

ENMAX Power Corporation in The City of Calgary

In 1996, the municipally owned electric utilities called The City of Calgary Electric System became a wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary. Commonly known as the wires company of ENMAX, ENMAX Power Corporation (EPC) is a company responsible for owning and maintaining electricity transmission and distribution in the Calgary region.

ENMAX History

ENMAX was originally founded as The City of Calgary Electric System by the city itself. It began operating in December 1905, in response to the end of a contract with a private supplier of electricity the previous year. After the deregulation of the power industry in Alberta in 1996, Calgary’s City Council approved a proposal making it a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Calgary, beginning January 1998, as the ENMAX Corporation.

In the past dozen years, ENMAX has returned more than $500 million to the City of Calgary, and has invested another $500 million into Calgary’s energy infrastructure.

ENMAX Power streetlights

The City of Calgary is responsible for maintaining streetlights in the city and hires ENMAX Power’s services to keep public lighting working. Yet, to report streetlight issues, customers should contact The City of Calgary’s service line: 311. The inquiry will then be sent to ENMAX.

Still, ENMAX Power offers neighbourhoods the option of adding private streetlights to their streets through the Bright Nights program. The main idea behind the project is to enhance lighting and safety in certain Calgary areas. To find out if your neighbourhood is eligible, you can go to the company’s “Streetlights for your neighbourhood” online page.

According to ENMAX Power, the program brings energy-efficient lighting to existing power poles in each alley. The cost of this service is $17.59 per light bulb monthly and can be shared between up to six families. You don’t need to be an ENMAX Energy or easymax® customer to bring the Bright Nights lighting to your street. Also, all maintenance costs are already included in the monthly prices.

Sign in to your ENMAX Energy account Go to the ENMAX Energy website Customer Care (Alberta): 310-2010 Customer Care (Outside the province): 1-877-571-7111 ENMAX Electricity Services: getconnected@enmax.com ENMAX Meter Services / Retailer Services: TRAC@enmax.com ENMAX Energy (ENMAX Retail) ENMAX Energy Corporation (EEC) is an energy generation and retail services affiliate that offers electricity and natural […]

{"0":"post-4656","1":"page","2":"type-page","3":"status-publish","5":"entry

<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.2 (Yoast SEO v27.2) -
