What is EasyMax?
EasyMax Energy is an ENMAX Energy company released as a subset of electricity and natural gas plans in Alberta. Customers may choose to bundle their natural gas and electric plans together into a single bill, or only sign up for a single EasyMax service. Such features made EasyMax known for its flexibility regarding natural gas and power services.
EasyMax, or EasyMax by ENMAX Energy, currently offers one, three and five-year guaranteed fixed electricity and natural gas rates, as well as variable rate (also known as floating rate) natural gas and electricity prices. EasyMax features flexible, “competitive electricity and gas plans,” targeted at residential customers and small businesses with energy consumption volumes of less than 75,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. ENMAX advertises EasyMax as striking a balance between the certainty of being protected from fluctuating energy costs, while at the same time allowing customers a great deal of flexibility.
One of the most advertised benefits of the EasyMax plans is that customers are not locked into a contract, but rather have the option of flipping between fixed- and variable-rate contracts on a monthly basis without penalty.
The obvious advantage of this is that customers can pay the inexpensive variable-rate during the spring and summer, and then switch to the current guaranteed fixed-rate plan before the energy-intensive fall and winter seasons arrive.
In line with the other “flexible” attributes of their EasyMax energy plans, ENMAX advertises that it doesn’t have the service cancellation penalties typical of many other competitive retailers of natural gas and electricity. ENMAX states that customers have the right to entirely cancel either or both of their EasyMax services at any time — with one month’s notice — without financial penalty. EasyMax is commonly considered one of the most flexible Calgary energy providers.
ENMAX Energy frequently advertises additional ‘perks’ for their EasyMax customers. Some promotions offer customers the ability to earn EasyMax Rewards (EasyMax Dollars), which are credits that can be applied to the customer’s EasyMax gas or electricity bill. Currently, new EasyMax customers receive a one-time $25 credit, 90 days after the start of their service. Additionally, customers can receive discounts on ticketed events or promotional gift cards.
